Hello, my name is Shiree Bush-Giblin, and I have been a resident of Olympia Fields for 30 years. I raised six children here in Olympia Fields, all of whom attended Arcadia Elementary School. My three oldest children graduated from Rich Central High School (now Rich Township High School), with two of them going on to graduate from Florida A &M University. My three youngest attended Southland College Preparatory High School, with one currently in their senior year. Two of them now attend the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I joined the Holiday Dinner Dance Committee in 2006, and in 2011, I was elected Vice President of the Maynegaite Homeowners Association. The following year, I became a member of the Olympia Fields Mayor's Golf Committee under State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin, which helped bring revenue back to the Maynegaite subdivision.
In 2017, I founded a non-profit organization called The Olympia Fields Event Committee. This initiative allowed us to continue hosting the Annual Holiday Dinner Dance and the All-White Dinner Dance each year at the Olympia Fields Country Club. Our organization helped raise funds for Good Shepherd, Arcadia Elementary School, and provided hats and gloves to volunteers for Wheels and Meals. Additionally, we organized a luncheon for seniors at the Rich Township Senior Center, providing movie tickets, hats, and gloves. We also contributed to Girls Evolving into Maturity Sisters (GEMS).
In 2018, I met with Mayor Sterling M. Burke to discuss an ordinance change that allowed homeowners in Olympia Fields who wanted underground water sprinklers to be exempt from paying an extra $6,500 fee to Village Hall. That same year, I was elected President of the Maynegaite Homeowners Association. During my tenure, my board launched a campaign to collect back dues, and we successfully raised $10,000 in just three months. I retired from the board shortly thereafter.
In 2021, I joined the Democratic Women of the Southland Region (DWSR). This organization has provided me with a platform to amplify my voice and fight for our democracy.
I have studied at Florida Memorial University, Prairie State College, and Westwood College. I earned a degree in Graphic Design (Applied Science), became a licensed Medical Assistant, and am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Throughout my career, I have contributed to the campaign committees of Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Judge Linzey Jones, State Representative Debbie Meyers-Martin, and the late Tim Bradford.
My passion is helping others and giving back to my community. There is no stopping me now!
